Andrew Ciminelli

I began to learn woodworking in college. I graduated from University of the Pacific with a Bachelors Degree in Studio Arts, emphasizing in Photography and Sculpture. During my time in school, I explored different approaches to photography and sculpture. I focused on merging the two mediums using mathematics in order to transition work from two dimensional to three dimensional. My studies became the foundation of my interest in woodworking. I enjoyed working with wood in practical applications and in building art. I am able to be precise and produce high quality enduring products that are beautiful. After college, I continued to develop my skills while I worked for a reputable woodworking company located in Lodi, CA.

Outside of my formal studies, I have a great appreciation for the outdoors, which has encouraged my interest in woodworking, with wood being one of Earth’s natural resources. I am a lifelong learner and look forward to continue to explore the world and my work.

When I am not in my workshop, you can find me out fishing, playing my guitar, or hiking and camping with my Wife and two dogs, Nugget and Butter.

How to care for your wooden board food grade items

While wood is very durable and resilient, food grade wood items like cutting boards and charcuterie boards need some upkeep to keep them lasting as long as possible. Here is the quick version:

1) Clean your used board with soap and warm water

2) Let board completely air dry before storage

3) Periodically apply food grade oil to your board such as mineral oil, beeswax or coconut oil

If you want to take it a little further, take a 220g or 320 grit finish sandpaper and scuff the surface after your cleaned board is fully dry. Then apply the oil with a 600 grit scotch-brite pad with the grain. After a few minutes buff off any excess oil with a cloth.

Other things to note are to make sure you are oiling both sides of the board when reapplying. If your board is being oiled on one side only there is a chance moisture gets into the board on the other side and causes warping. A well cared for Cutting board can last decades, so it is worth the little effort it takes to care for it! Try our made in house, food grade beeswax and mineral oil board wax.
